Cacao Almond Butter Smoothie

Looking for a quick, healthy breakfast or snack recipe that will also support your gut? This nourishing cacao almond butter smoothie is loaded with fiber and nutrients that can help support your gut-health while you’re on the go.

Smoothies are one of my favorite quick snacks to nourish my body throughout the day, or to make for breakfast on a busy morning when I’m rushing out the door. This cacao almond butter smoothie includes nutrient-dense ingredients such as raw milk, dates, 100% cacao powder, banana, and natural almond butter.

Why is cacao good for our gut health? It’s naturally rich in dietary fibers, which is important to prevent constipation and to keep everything running smoothly down there. Fiber acts a prebiotic, which nourishes the good bacteria in our gut and intestines. Consuming cacao regularly can help to maintain a healthy and balanced gut microbiome — which is essential for optimal digestion, balanced hormones, and absorption of nutrients. If you’re someone who struggles with chronic conditions such as IBS especially (like myself), cacao is a great ingredient to incorporate into your diet as it decreases inflammation in the gut as well.

Similarly, dates are super rich in fiber and prebiotics that are beneficial to our digestion and nutrient absorption. I like to put 4-5 dates in this smoothie for an added boost of fiber, but also to add some sweetness and caramel flavor!

This smoothie also contains raw milk, another ingredient that is nutrient-dense and loaded with healthy digestive enzymes. Otherwise, you can use any kind of milk you like!
